Smoke Free Cook County

In 2005, Commissioner Quigley, a long-time champion of respiratory health, proposed and passed a county-wide secondhand smoke ban which prohibited all smoking indoors throughout Cook County. His legislation soon led to a ban state-wide.

On May 1, 2007, the Smoke-Free Illinois Act was passed, which prohibits smoking in public places, places of employment, governmental vehicles and within 15 feet of any entrance to a public place or place of employment through the entire state of Illinois.
